Strolling Thunder Colorado

Join Colorado families from across the state for the Strolling Thunder Colorado rally and march on Saturday, September 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 am! We’ll rally on the patio of the Spring Café at 14th Avenue and Grant Streets to bring attention to the health and well-being of babies and toddlers in Colorado, then we’ll march around the Colorado State Capitol with our strollers and wraps to visually connect young children with the decision-making that takes place under the gold dome. Register at: https://coloradokids.salsalabs.org/strollingthunder2019/index.html?page=register

During the summer and fall, state legislators develop the policies they will propose during the upcoming legislative session that convenes annually from January through May. By bringing together families with babies and toddlers to make their voices heard, we’ll remind state legislators to #ThinkBabies when making policy decisions. Early experiences shape how a baby’s brain develops, laying the foundation for future learning, behavior and health. Join us to bring statewide attention to what babies and families need to thrive.

The rally will kick off with a performance by the Seven Falls Indian Dancers who will then lead our stroll around the Capitol. Before and after the march, enjoy refreshments provided by the Spring Café and visit with community organizations that serve families with infants and toddlers. Strolling Thunder Colorado is an annual event hosted by the Raise Colorado coalition, the Early Childhood Council Leadership Alliance (ECCLA), the Colorado Association for Education of Young Children (COAEYC), the Colorado Children’s Campaign, Clayton Early Learning, the Denver Affiliate of the Black Child Development Institute, Guerrilla Mamas, and Think Babies.

Digital Threat Assessment Trainings

One way we can work to keep our schools’ safe is by protecting against digital threats. The clear majority of recent school violence attacks have had precursors leaked online in the form of social media posts. Knowing where, how, and when to look for this critical information is the task at hand. There are simple and free online tools and techniques that all those responsible for ensuring the safety in your schools need to be using on a regular basis. Given “Safer Schools Together” role in actively assisting school districts and police agencies across North America, you will not find a more up-to-date presentation in this specific subject area.

The Colorado School Safety Resource Center and the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool will be partnering with Safer Schools Together to offer three days of Digital Threat Assessment Workshop from Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 25 through 27, 2019. This training will help those who share responsibility for school safety better understand and respond to safety challenges presented by social media.

The digital threat assessment training will provide tools to identify student safety concerns and provide strategies for dealing with the current digital world. Advanced and Train-the-Trainer classes will require a pre-requisite(s) to attend.
